BMW X1 xdrive 25d Review

The BMW X1 xdrive with the 25d engine is the most luxurious of the BMW X1 models so, naturally, it has the price tag to match. There are cheaper hatchbacks at a lower cost with more space so with prices up to £33,000 is the xdrive worth the extra cost?

BMW X1 xdrive 25d Review

What’s it like to drive?

If you’re looking for a powerful car then look no further than the 25d engine which will pick up speed quickly and progressively. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a smooth eight-speed automatic is available as an option. For a powerful car this car is smooth to drive and with an ‘agile’ feel about it. In terms of refinement, the car is great a blocking out road noise unless you’re travelling at high speed where you might pick up some wind noise. Should you find any technical difficulty with your new purchase BMW Service Inclusive lasts for 5 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) and covers your vehicle’s comprehensive servicing requirements.

What are the aesthetics like?

The interior of the car is up to BMW’s usual high standards with luxurious leather upholstery. The iDrive control system is also in place which allows drivers and passengers to control temperature, navigation, communication and audio from one central station. However, in terms of spacing the X1 is similar to other hatchbacks for half the price, head-room is extremely spacious whilst leg-room is only average.

What are running costs like?

In terms of CO2 emissions and running costs there is quite a variance between the manual and automatic gearbox choices for the 25d engine range. CO2 emissions in the manual are 154.0 g/km and 47.9 mpg whilst CO2 emissions in the automatic are considerably lower at 145.0 g/km and fuel usage is 51.4 mpg.

BMW cars come with a variety of car service options

There’s no doubt that this is one of the most expensive X1s to buy and run and it’s sad to say that the additions the xLine bring in are purely aesthetic. Owning a BMW is a dream for many people, sometimes you have to come back to reality. Driving a BMW may bring you hours of joy but they can also have a detrimental effect on your pocket. Car parts, running costs and servicing are often rather expensive when it comes to a BMW. What BMW lacks in cost it makes up for in reliability and exhilaration.

Should I buy one?

Its good looks and trim will make it very desirable to many buyers and keep it competitive with other rivals. The twin turbo diesel engine and new 8 speed gearbox will help make the car a continued success. The major issue that will put many punters off if the high price tag. There are other competitors in the market that are just as appealing and won’t break the piggy bank.
